From the Fields to the Museum: Sims Farms Honored at the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum

Updated: Jan 5

Sims Farms is honored to announce a meaningful milestone in our family’s agricultural journey: our legacy is now officially preserved at the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina.

As part of the museum’s Future of Agriculture Exhibit, a corn grinder belonging to third-generation farmer Isaac Sims, originally used in the 1970s, has been added to the collection. This historic tool represents the hard work, resilience, and innovation that has sustained Sims Farms across generations.

Honoring the Past While Celebrating the Future

The Future of Agriculture Exhibit highlights families who have shaped South Carolina’s farming history while actively leading its future. The inclusion of Isaac Sims’ corn grinder honors the generations who laid the foundation for Sims Farms and recognizes the new generation now carrying the legacy forward.

Members of the Sims family attended the exhibit’s opening, sharing a powerful moment of reflection as they saw a piece of their history preserved for the public. What once served as an everyday farming tool is now a symbol of generational dedication, resilience, and progress.

A Tool That Tells a Story

Used during the 1970s, the corn grinder reflects a time when farming relied on both physical labor and ingenuity. For the Sims family, it represents more than agriculture—it tells the story of land ownership since 1876, perseverance through changing times, and an unwavering commitment to farming as a way of life.

A Living Legacy

While the artifact honors the past, its placement in the Future of Agriculture Exhibit underscores an important truth: Sims Farms is not just history—it is an active, evolving operation. Today, the family continues to farm, provide USDA-certified produce, create jobs, and invest in the future of agriculture in South Carolina.

Being included in the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum affirms the Sims family’s ongoing mission to preserve our land, honor our ancestors, and ensure that farming remains a legacy passed forward—not left behind.

We are proud to share our story with the public and grateful for the opportunity to inspire future generations through agriculture.
