Sims Farms was proudly featured on Channel 5 News (WCSC) as Dorchester County officially proclaimed January 10 as “Sims Family Legacy Day,” honoring 150 of consecutive land stewardship, farming excellence, and community impact.
The Sims family has maintained continuous ownership of their land since 1876, beginning with Franklin Sims’ original 80-acre farm. Over five generations, the farm has grown crops such as corn, okra, soybeans, tomatoes, and watermelon, while now utilizing USDA-certified organic practices. In 2025, the family expanded with a muscadine vineyard, producing flavored wines, bottled teas, and juices.
“It’s a great honor to see our family and community recognized,” said Johnathan Sims, six-generation farmer and partner of Sims Farms LLC. The family also emphasizes financial literacy, sustainable farming, and generational leadership to preserve the land for future generations.
Sims Farms continues to strengthen the community through local employment, agritourism, and economic development. The farm is a recipient of the Century Farms Award and remains the only African American family in South Carolina to receive this honor.
